Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have many special activities coming up at the high school this spring!

On Friday, April 20th, some organizations have encouraged another national school walkout day. However, for everyone’s safety, we are encouraging and welcoming students to WALK UP to the library for a community breakfast if they are free. At that time the new Putnam County Sheriff as well as our Town Supervisor, Mr. Oliverio will be in the library meeting with students discussing the issue of school safety. Throughout the day, the library will have other special activities and one of the Blue Path Service Dogs will be visiting to comfort and brighten students’ day. On an additional note, as many know, April 20th marks the date of the Columbine High School tragedy. Although I feel that PVHS is a very safe school, the Putnam Valley Sheriff’s Department will provide extra security for the campus on that day. Extra officers will be patrolling the campus and grounds throughout the day to ensure that all students feel safe.

We are also planning our next lockdown drill for next week, April 23rd-April 27th. Although we will not announce the specific time of the drill, we do want to give all students and parents notice that a drill will be happening to not cause alarm. The Putnam Valley Sheriff’s Department will also be partnering with us to conduct the next drill to improve our efficiency.

We are very excited for our musical production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrelsby our PVHS cast and crew on April 20th-April 22nd. Sets are built, lines are memorized and the costumes are here! We are almost ready for the opening curtain. Please make sure to visit http://www.pvcsd.org/HS/index.php for your tickets! We are also looking forward to our annual Senior Citizen Dinner and dress rehearsal on April 19th! It’s a great community gathering.

The following week, we are participating in two important events. On Tuesday, April 24th we have over one hundred students attending the Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES College Fair. This event gives students an important opportunity to meet representatives and gather information on colleges they might be interested in. On Wednesday, April 25th, we will have a special assembly by the local organization Drugs in Our Backyard for 9th and 10th graders. During the assembly, students will hear from a recovering heroin addict and how this addiction impacted his life. Our entire country has been gripped by the opioid addiction and Drugs In Our Backyard is committed to working with young people to prevent drug addiction and overdoses in our local community.

On Thursday, April 26th we will induct our newest members of the National Honor Society. Our students are doing amazing work and this ceremony gives us the opportunity to celebrate the hard work of our students.

On an academic note, our 3rd quarter recently ended and grades will be posted by the end of the week. If you find that your child is struggling academically, emotionally or socially, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teachers, guidance counselors or administration. We are here to partner with you to help all students through these challenging times.

Please be on the lookout for important AP testing information that will be sent home soon. AP exams begin May 7th!

Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Sandra Intrieri
